We're getting the hang of things!

We are learning procedures and routines and are really starting to get the hang of it. We spent a lot of time discussing Writer's Workshop today. We talked about how to get our supplies, how to organize our writing, and how to be good authors that write the whole time and try our "1st grade best" when it comes to spelling.

We also did a really nice job with our math today.  We have been reviewing all of our numbers, and today we focused on the #3.  We discussed things that come in three's, like stoplights having three lights, triplets, etc. We practiced drawing our triangles to remind ourselves that triangles have 3-sides and 3-corners.

Yesterday, we read Chrysanthemum and talked about how words can really hurt. We all promised to use kind words in our classroom, school, and at home. We know that we can never take back what we say, and sometimes it leaves people with a wrinkled heart.

We are getting SO smart already! We're excited for next week when we get into our regular schedule and learn even more amazing things!

Please remember to check your child's backpack every single day. There are a lot of things that come home each day. Your child can't wait to tell you about their day and all of the things they did at school. Please let me know if you have any questions about the materials coming home. I will try to keep you updated through email, the text reminders and this blog.  If you haven't subscribed to the text reminders yet, text @mrssellenr to (402) 513-3560.

Thanks for all you do! Happy (almost) Friday! :)
Love, Mrs. Sellenrick
